Lincoln County is a peaceful rural destination in eastern Georgia, situated along the South Carolina border. Its county seat, Lincolnton, is a charming small town known for its welcoming community and historic character.
Despite its name, the county was not named after Abraham Lincoln. Instead, it honors Benjamin Lincoln, a general who served during the American Revolutionary War. One of the county’s greatest attractions is Clarks Hill Lake, also known as Lake Thurmond, which offers outstanding opportunities for fishing, boating, camping, and other outdoor recreation.
Agriculture and timber continue to play an important role in Lincoln County’s economy, with farms and forested landscapes stretching across much of the region. The county is also rich in history, featuring Native American archaeological sites and Civil War landmarks that reflect its long and diverse past. Throughout the year, music festivals and community events in Lincolnton attract visitors from across the region, adding to the county’s friendly small-town atmosphere and appeal.
