Jasper County, Indiana
It’s easy to overlook Jasper County, but that would be a mistake. This corner of northwest Indiana is where the Prairie State truly lives up to its name. Rensselaer is the county seat, a small town surrounded by wide-open farmland.
The Kankakee River forms the county’s northern border and provides excellent fishing opportunities. The Iroquois River also winds through the county, adding some variety to the otherwise flat landscape.
Fair Oaks Farms is a major attraction, giving city visitors a taste of modern farming. The county is also home to the Jasper-Pulaski Fish and Wildlife Area, famous for the thousands of sandhill cranes that stop there during migration.
