Jay County sits along Indiana’s eastern border with Ohio. Portland, the county seat, is a small town located near the center of the county, with U.S. Route 27 serving as the main highway.
This is prime Indiana farmland, with corn and soybeans stretching as far as the eye can see. The Salamonie River cuts through the county, providing a bit of scenic relief from the otherwise flat landscape.
The people here are down-to-earth and proud of their agricultural heritage. It’s not a major tourist destination, but Jay County has its own character and a strong sense of community.
