Bleckley County is a small community in central Georgia that often flies under the radar. Its county seat, Cochran, sits at the crossroads of Highways 23 and 26, serving as the center of local government, education, and commerce.
Compared to many Georgia counties, Bleckley County is relatively young. It was created in 1912 from a portion of Pulaski County and was named after Logan Bleckley, a former chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court.
Agriculture remains an important part of the local economy, with peanuts, cotton, and timber among the leading industries. Middle Georgia State University maintains a campus in Cochran, bringing students and activity to the area.
