Breckinridge County is located in north-central Kentucky along the Ohio River. Hardinsburg, the county seat, is situated near the center of the county.
Rough River Dam State Resort Park is a popular destination for boating, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors. The Yellowbank Wildlife Management Area also offers excellent opportunities for hunting and bird watching.
The county is named after John Breckinridge, a Kentucky statesman. Breckinridge County is known for its beautiful farmland and Amish communities, with about 20,000 people calling the area home.
