Morgan County, Tennessee
Morgan County sits in eastern Tennessee, right in the heart of Appalachia. Wartburg serves as the county seat, while the surrounding mountains and forests make the area a great place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors.
Frozen Head State Park is one of the county’s biggest attractions, offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, camping, and exploring the mountain scenery. The Obed Wild and Scenic River also runs through the area, making the county especially popular with kayakers and other outdoor enthusiasts.
Morgan County has an interesting history as well. Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary once operated here, but the site has gone through quite a transformation. The property was originally connected to coal mining and later became a prison before turning into a distillery and tourist attraction. It’s quite a story for one place!
