King County is about as small and remote as Texas gets. Located in the rolling plains of North Texas, it is one of the least populated counties in the United States. Ranching remains the heart of life here.
Guthrie serves as the county seat and has only a small number of residents. The Wichita River passes through the county, providing an important water source in the otherwise semi-arid landscape.
The legendary 6666 Ranch, established in 1870, is one of the area’s best-known landmarks and covers a large portion of the county. The weather can be tough, and modern amenities are limited, but the wide-open scenery and spectacular sunsets make King County a memorable place.
