Lavaca County, Texas
Lavaca County lies southeast of San Antonio in the coastal plains of Texas. The county takes its name from the Lavaca River, with “Lavaca” meaning “cow” in Spanish. It’s a fitting name, considering cattle ranching remains an important part of local life.
Hallettsville serves as the county seat and hosts an annual state championship domino tournament, where the competition is taken very seriously. Nearby Shiner is home to the well-known Shiner Brewery, adding another piece of local character to the county.
