McCulloch County, Texas

McCulloch County sits right in the heart of Texas. Brady, the county seat, proudly calls itself the “Heart of Texas,” and there’s a monument to back it up. The town is located near the geographic center of the state.

This county has a fascinating past. During World War II, it was home to a large military training camp. Today, the landscape is a mix of rugged hills, open prairies, and the Colorado River along the northern edge. It’s classic Central Texas scenery with plenty of wide-open space.

Hunting is a big part of life here, especially during deer season, which brings visitors from across the region. The county was named for Ben McCulloch, a famous Texas Ranger and Confederate general. Pecan orchards are scattered throughout the countryside, and come fall, the smell of roasting pecans fills the air.
