Parmer County, Texas
Parmer County sits in the far reaches of the Texas Panhandle, where the land is as flat as it gets and the wind seems to blow nonstop. Agriculture is the heart of the local economy, with center-pivot irrigation systems dotting the wide-open farmland.
Farwell serves as the county seat, while Friona and Bovina are the county’s two other communities. Friona proudly calls itself the “Cheeseburger Capital of Texas,” and its annual festival celebrates that claim. Bovina is much smaller, but it adds to the county’s quiet, close-knit character.
The county is named for Martin Parmer, a hero of the Texas Revolution. Life here moves at a relaxed pace, except on Friday nights when football brings the community together. Outside of game night, Parmer County is mostly peaceful, wide-open, and wonderfully quiet.
