Swisher County sits up in the Texas Panhandle and is almost perfectly square. Tulia serves as the county seat. The landscape is incredibly flat—about as flat as it gets. With so little blocking the view, you can watch storms rolling across the plains from miles away.

The county is named after James G. Swisher, a soldier who fought in the Texas Revolution. Agriculture is a major part of life here, with wheat and cotton among the most important crops. Farming has shaped the landscape and remains a big part of the local economy.

Mackenzie Reservoir in the eastern part of the county supplies water for irrigation and offers plenty of opportunities for fishing and recreation. Palo Duro Canyon is also nearby and attracts both locals and visitors. Swisher County may be quiet and flat, but there’s plenty to see once you look beyond the horizon.
