Terry County, Texas

Terry County sits in the South Plains, right in the middle of West Texas farm country. It’s also known for its pumpkin production, ranking among the more productive pumpkin-growing counties in the country. Brownfield is the biggest town and the county seat. It’s not a huge place, but folks here are friendly and welcoming.

Agriculture drives the local economy, with cotton, peanuts, and pumpkins among the major crops. Summers can be brutally hot and dry, with long stretches without much rain. But when storms finally roll in, they can make their presence known across the wide-open plains.

Terry County has a strong farming tradition, with some families working the same land for generations. It’s a close-knit community where Friday night football is a big deal. If you happen to be around in September, the Terry County Fair is worth checking out. It’s a good snapshot of the county’s agricultural roots and small-town spirit.
