Haskell County is nestled in southwest Kansas, within the state’s High Plains region. Sublette, the county seat, is a small community, and the county has a population of only around 3,500 residents.
Agriculture is at the heart of Haskell County, with wheat, corn, and milo among the main crops. Irrigation plays a vital role, though, because farming this semi-arid land would be difficult without it. The Ogallala Aquifer provides the water that makes much of this agriculture possible.
Life here isn’t always easy, but the people of Haskell County take great pride in their community. They’ve built a way of life in a demanding landscape, and that resilience is part of what makes the county special.
