Jackson County, Kansas

Jackson County is located in northeast Kansas, just a short distance from Topeka. The Flint Hills blend into the state’s glaciated region here, creating a landscape with a character all its own. Holton serves as the county seat.

Prairie Creek Lake is a popular spot for fishing and camping. Cattle graze across native grasslands, while fields of corn and soybeans add to the agricultural scenery. The area also has a strong Native American presence.

The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation has deep roots here, and its casino attracts visitors from across the region. Farming isn’t always easy, but it remains an important way of life in Jackson County. People know their neighbors, and there’s a strong sense of community. It’s the kind of place where you might feel comfortable leaving your doors unlocked at night—though it’s probably still best not to tempt fate.
