Kiowa County, Kansas
Kiowa County is located in south-central Kansas, with Greensburg serving as the county seat. The community gained national attention after a devastating tornado in 2007 destroyed much of Greensburg, which later rebuilt itself as a “green” town focused on sustainable development.
The county is made up mostly of flat farmland, and hunting is a popular outdoor activity. In Greensburg, the famous Big Well is a major attraction and is recognized as the world’s largest hand-dug well.
U.S. Highway 54 passes through the county, providing convenient access from Wichita and Dodge City. With a population of around 2,500 residents, Kiowa County may be small in size, but it has plenty of character and resilience.
