Bingham County stretches across southeastern Idaho’s Snake River Plain, with the Fort Hall Indian Reservation covering part of the county. Mountains rise along the eastern side, offering plenty of opportunities for hiking, hunting, and outdoor recreation.
The Snake River runs through the county, supplying water to the region’s famous potato fields. Blackfoot, the county seat, proudly calls itself the “Potato Capital of the World,” and the local Idaho Potato Museum celebrates that agricultural legacy. Across the countryside, center-pivot irrigation systems are a familiar sight.
While agriculture remains the backbone of Bingham County, the nearby Idaho National Laboratory brings high-tech jobs and adds another dimension to the local economy. Every September, the Eastern Idaho State Fair attracts large crowds, while rodeo events and high school football remain popular parts of the community’s culture.
