Garza County sits in the wide-open plains of West Texas. Post serves as the county seat and was founded by C.W. Post, the cereal entrepreneur who envisioned creating a model community in the area. His grand plans didn’t unfold exactly as he imagined, but Post remains an important part of the county today.
The Caprock Escarpment stretches through Garza County, rising dramatically from the surrounding plains. Canyons, mesas, and open grasslands give the area a rugged and striking landscape. The region also has a deep history, with traces of Native American life and ancient rock art found in some of the hidden canyon areas.
Ranching has long been central to the local economy, and cattle are a familiar sight across the countryside. With its rugged terrain, peaceful surroundings, and wide-open spaces, Garza County offers a true taste of rural Texas. When night falls, the lack of city lights makes the skies especially impressive, with countless stars filling the darkness.
