Stewart County, Georgia

Stewart County is located in west-central Georgia and was established in 1830. Named in honor of Revolutionary War General Daniel Stewart, the county is one of Georgia’s least populated, offering visitors peaceful landscapes, rich history, and abundant outdoor recreation. Lumpkin, the county seat, serves as the heart of this welcoming rural community.

One of Stewart County’s most celebrated attractions is Providence Canyon State Park, often called Georgia’s "Little Grand Canyon." Its colorful canyons and scenic hiking trails make it one of the state's most photographed natural landmarks. The county is also home to Florence Marina State Park on Lake Walter F. George, where visitors can enjoy boating, fishing, camping, and a variety of water activities.

Agriculture remains a cornerstone of the local economy, with peanuts, cotton, and other crops cultivated across the county’s fertile farmland. Stewart County is also rich in Native American and early Georgia history. The nearby Westville historic village offers an immersive look at 19th-century life through restored buildings, demonstrations, and living history exhibits.
