Hardeman County lies along the Texas-Oklahoma border, with the Red River forming much of its northern boundary. The river is a popular destination for fishing and outdoor recreation. Quanah, the county seat, takes its name from the renowned Comanche leader Quanah Parker.
The county features a rugged and scenic landscape, with red soil, mesquite trees, and prickly pear cactus spread across the countryside. Agriculture and oil production remain important parts of the local economy, while residents take great pride in the area’s deep roots and traditions.
Copper Breaks State Park is one of Hardeman County’s standout attractions, offering opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, and some of the region’s best stargazing. The park is also associated with the Texas State Longhorn herd program, giving visitors a chance to see these iconic cattle.
