Houston County, Texas
Houston County has a name that can be a little confusing—it doesn’t actually include the city of Houston. Not even a tiny piece of it. Houston is located in Harris County, just in case you were curious.
Houston County is the third-oldest county in Texas, established in 1837. It lies in the eastern part of the state, relatively close to the Louisiana border. Crockett, named after legendary frontiersman Davy Crockett, serves as the county seat.
The county is known for its pine forests, rolling hills, and plenty of outdoor space. Hunting is a popular pastime, while Lovelady draws visitors each year for its Fiddlers Festival. Even Crockett has a relaxed small-town atmosphere. Agriculture and timber remain important to the local economy, and residents take plenty of pride in their Texas roots.
