Kiowa County, Colorado

Kiowa County is located on Colorado’s eastern plains and has a distinctly rural character. Eads serves as the county seat, while the county’s population remains very small, with fewer than 1,400 residents.

The landscape is mostly flat farmland, with wheat and cattle forming the backbone of the local economy. Hunting is also popular, particularly for pheasants, thanks to the county’s open plains and wildlife habitat.

Kiowa County is home to the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site, a somber place that preserves the history and memory of the 1864 massacre. Away from the main roads and communities, the county is known for its wide-open spaces, big skies, and peaceful atmosphere.
