Escambia County, Alabama
Escambia County is located along the southern border of Alabama, adjoining Florida. Atmore, the county seat, is known for its strong Native American heritage and hosts the annual Poarch Creek Indian Pow Wow.
The county has a population of around 37,000 and takes its name from the Escambia River, which flows along its eastern side. The county itself stretches in a long, rectangular shape from east to west.
Atmore is also home to a large correctional facility, which provides jobs but has also sparked debate. The area celebrates its agricultural roots with the annual Alabama Blueberry Festival.
