Limestone County, Texas
Limestone County sits in east-central Texas, between Waco and Dallas. The county gets its name from the abundant limestone found throughout the area, and the rocks contain plenty of marine fossils that offer a glimpse into the region’s ancient past.
Groesbeck serves as the county seat, while Mexia is the largest community. Mexia was once known for its oil boom in the 1920s, but life today is much quieter and more relaxed.
Fort Parker State Park is a popular destination for fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors. The landscape combines open prairies with wooded areas, where cattle graze across the countryside. In spring, the Bluebonnet Festival in Mexia adds plenty of color and community spirit to the county.
