Grand County, Colorado
Grand County is located in north-central Colorado and stretches across the Continental Divide. Winter Park is one of the county’s best-known destinations, attracting visitors for its popular ski resort. The county also provides access to the western side of Rocky Mountain National Park.
The county was named after the Grand River, which was later renamed the Colorado River. Ranching remains important, particularly around Kremmling, while extensive public lands provide opportunities for hiking, camping, fishing, and other outdoor activities.
Grand County has a population of about 15,000 people, although tourists arrive throughout the year. Summers are generally short and mild, while winters are long and snowy. Grand Lake, the state’s largest natural lake, is another major attraction and adds to the county’s appeal as a year-round outdoor destination.
