Union County is located in the southeast corner of Arkansas along the Louisiana border. Approximately 75,000 people live in the county, and U.S. Highway 82 runs through the area.
El Dorado, the county seat, was once at the center of Arkansas’s oil boom. Today, the city is developing as a cultural destination with the Murphy Arts District, which includes the annual MusicFest featuring well-known performers.
The Arkansas Museum of Natural Resources in Smackover highlights the region’s oil history. Lake Felsenthal National Wildlife Refuge also offers opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing.
