King George County occupies a scenic corner of northeastern Virginia along the Potomac River and is often called the “Gateway to the Historic Northern Neck.” Although the county has experienced steady growth, it has managed to preserve much of its peaceful, rural character.

The county has deep historical roots and was named after King George I of England. Today, the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division is a major part of the local economy, bringing high-tech employment and a strong defense presence to the region.

Caledon State Park is a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts and is especially well known for its bald eagle sightings.
