Tama County, Iowa
Tama County stretches across east-central Iowa and is named after Taimah, a Meskwaki chief. The county is home to the Meskwaki Settlement, Iowa’s only federally recognized Native American settlement.
Toledo, the county seat, is home to the historic Tama County Courthouse, a beautiful 1800s structure. The Iowa River runs through Tama County and passes through Toledo as well.
The county has a population of around 17,000, with farming playing a major role in the local economy. Otter Creek Lake and Park is another notable feature, while U.S. Highway 30 runs through the county.
